This full day training will enable teachers to work with hands-on activities to develop the highly effective ‘Concrete- Pictorial – Abstract’ (CPA) approach from the EYFS to Year 6


  • Place value, base 10 and the decimal system
  • Moving from ‘counting to calculating’ to significantly improve mental maths skills
  • Teaching all forms of calculation using ‘tens frames’ (including times tables)
  • Embedding algebra from the EYFS to Year 6 using Cuisenaire rods and connecting this to ‘bar modelling’
  • The essential role of ‘subitizing’ and how this leads to calculation fluency

Organisational Options:

Option 1: Three – six half day sessions (most popular choice)

  • Costs start at only £375 (+VAT) per session for a single school or £40 (+VAT) per delegate per session for a local cluster 
  • 2 free places for the host school
  • Sessions delivered in a local school and spread over time to allow for essential in-class action and feedback
  • Mornings or afternoons from 9:00- 12:00 and 1:00pm-4:00pm (this can be easily adjusted to mornings or another time to suit your needs)
  • Group can be single school or local cluster group (min. 15 and max. 25) No additional expenses for local cluster groups

Option 2: Full training day followed by half day or twilight sessions

  • Whole school INSET day with follow up sessions to support vital in-class action
  • Costs start at £650 (+VAT) for a full day and £375 (+VAT) per half day for a single school (discounts available for schools wishing to cluster together)
